When searching for used metal detectors, you may have come across names like Garrett or even used Whites and Fisher metal detectors. In my opinion you definitely want to go with a used Garrett metal detector.
Garrett detectors are quality units. I’ve owned a Garrett metal detector since around 1980. It’s a Garrett Master Hunter A.D.S., that is a vlf tr unit. I’ve taken care of it and it still works well and I still use it for Cache hunting and prospecting. Although it requires 6 9volt batteries.
Used Garrett metal detectors will serve your needs nicely. As long as you make sure your used Garrett metal detector works properly, and as long as you know how to use it (they’re not that hard to learn how to use), you’re in for one great time. When you’re out there, scanning the ground with your used Garrett metal detector, you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find. Find jewelry, coins, electronics or all of the above and have a fun time doing it.
Where Should You Look For A Used Garrett Detector?
When people need money, they go to the pawn shop to get cash for their jewelry, their electronics, their guns and even their used metal detectors. If you can’t find any Garrett’s at your local pawn shops, there is always the internet. You can go to Ebay, one of the free classified ad sites, or just do a web search to see if you can find any websites that specialize in offering used items, such as used Garrett metal detectors.

See Garrett Metal Detectors Below
I recently read a well known book on metal detectors… here’s my review of this book-
The authors have so much enthusiasm for their topic that I truly wanted to write a positive review, but unfortunately their enthusiasm is the only redeeming quality of the book. True, you can learn some things about searching for gold with a metal detector. And although the authors disclaim any purpose to sell their products, they refer to them exclusively on the grounds that they are most familiar with them. Well, OK, but it still has an uncomfortable feel to it. And I felt I was unable to translate many of their instructions to generic terms (for use with any brand metal detector).
Early on you are advised that terms are defined in the glossary. But they should also be defined in the text so that one does not have to continually stop reading and refer to the glossary. This is basic to didactic writing. For example, the term “placer” is used many times before it is defined. Ground balancing (canceling) is treated the same way.
There are several passages that are repeated verbatim in different chapters and you are left wondering if you have somehow read the current chapter already! It appears that the editor of the book was in a great rush, or extremely inexperienced. I could not find any reference to RAM publications on the web. The editor was found, and seems to be mostly associated with the works of Garret and Lagal.
Was it worth the price? I suppose, as I at least felt the excitement of hunting for gold. But it would be better titled as a companion to one of the Garret manufactured metal detectors. I still hope to find a book on using the metal detector as a hobby that is a better-written “how to” book that speaks in generic terms about metal detectors. This is a great book if your using a Garrett Metal Detector.

A Basic Overview – Metal Detectors And Detecting
By starting metal detecting as a hobby you will be find many outstanding benefits. The first of which is for your health. To use a metal detector you will have to walk. Even just this basic exercise is very good for you. By getting outside in the fresh air and moving around you will be doing your body very well. In addition to this the walking is very relaxing.
Another benefit of using a metal detector is the incredible things you can find. While most of us do it as hobby you will probably never find anything of extreme value, but the little treasures you do find are have amazing value to them. Finding and keeping old coins, jewelry and other lost things can be a huge draw for some people. While these items may not be extremely valuable from a monetary perspective, for many people they hold an extreme value to them.
You can enjoy looking for coins also called coin shooting , beach combing or looking for meteorites, prospecting for gold or looking for lost treasures you will have a ball.
